Nick’s Summary of His Swim

In 15 hours there is a lot that can go on, and unfortunately go against you. So I’ll attempt to keep this as short as I can…

As many of you know I was aiming to better my last swim (12hours and 36 minutes) so am I bummed, I guess you would have to be a bit, but I’m not all that upset about it. Could I have gone any faster, definitely not. I was right at where i wanted to be, at 9 hours with only 2 miles to go (at least that is what I was told) and got stuck, as my mom puts it, in an endless pool for 4 hours. Nothing I have any control of, had mother nature not been against me at the end I would have been around 9 hours and 50 minutes. So,everything I did the past year and a half paid off, how many people want, or can, swim for around 15 hours.

There were definitely times I wanted to get out, I don’t think I ever became hypothermic, but I was definitely shivering uncontrollably a couple of times. And for the last couple of miles when it took 4 extra hours I was quite annoyed because everybody on the boat kept telling me I was almost there and I couldn’t tell for the life of me, tried not to look up, just kept my head down. And every time I wanted to get out I just thought, “I haven’t finished what i came here to do”, the same thing I tell all you guys when you want out of a race at a meet, you’ve got to finish before you turn around and go home!

Don’t worry about my cool down, I’m going to do about a 1000 in the bay and not rush it, take my time. But that might be my last swim for a week or so! Thanks everybody for all the support, I look forward to telling you more when I get back.

Pictures will be on there way as soon as I get the cameras from my dad, which might be before you all wake up anyway.
